PROGRAMS OF STUDY
New Geneva Academy's flagship MDiv consists of three years of formal study. Each year is made up of three or four courses that run concurrently on a traditional 15-week semester schedule. Each semester students complete various parts of a practicum.
The Bachelor of Divinity (BD) program adds a course in the liberal arts covering the history, literature, philosophy, and culture of the West. We call this two semester course of study Groundwork. Groundwork is open to students—male and female—who are not enrolled in our BD program and who wish to bolster their knowledge of the foundations of Western culture.
For those who are not pursuing the pastoral ministry but would like to grow in their knowledge of God's Word and theology, we offer a pared-down version of our MDiv/BD curriculum. The Certificate in Bible & Theology program is open to men and is especially recommended for elders and teachers in the church.
The format of most courses is mainly teacher-led discussion with regular quizzes, tests, and writing assignments. Teachers lead discussions based on the reading material in which the students are required to understand the material, integrate it with other areas of knowledge, and apply it to themselves and actual ministry situations. As students learn to understand, internalize, discuss, and present the truths of each course, they are also being taught how to interact with truth in the pastorate for the rest of their lives.
The wives of married students in the BD and MDiv programs will attend a twice-a-month class taught by current pastors' wives.
